Kruger National Park
Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the
Lowveld, this two million hectare park, is unrivalled in its diversity
of life forms and a world leader in advanced environmental manage-ment
techniques and policies. The flagship of the South African National
Parks, Kruger is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49
fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals. Man's
interaction with the Lowveld environment over many centuries - from
Bushman rock art to archaeological sites like Masorini and Thulamela -
is very evident in the Kruger National Park.
These treasures represent the cultures, persons and
events that played a role in the history of the Park and are conserved
along with its natural assets. 12 Fenced main camps, 4 satellite camps,
5 bush camps and 2 bush lodges. All accommodation units are
self-catering and serviced daily. Bedding, towels and soap are provided.
There are also 7 luxury concession lodges where catering and activities
are included. Kruger now forms part of the Transfrontier conservation
initiative, the Great Limpopo Park, that is focusing on creating a
seamless, fenceless conservation wilderness merging vast tracts of land
in Zimbabwe and Mozambique with Kruger, to form the world's largest
conservation area.
